The Wicked Garden are one of the most highly-anticipated rock groups in Darwin, consisting of Zac East (ex-Zedmajor), Lachlan West (Crassic Park, Exit Pursued) and Rudy Navin (ex-Elysium). According to their bio, they are “three able musicians”, and will blast you with heavy tunage. This gig promises to be one of the year’s best, not to mention the very bold “bigger than Titanic without people dying” tag.

The ever-bombastic, Burrfoot will also be adding to the guitar-driven night, with high-school stoner rockers Faces In The Fire and the new line-up of Zedmajor, with ex-Sweet Amber members Dylan Podsiadly and Steve-O Stevenson joining the crew, bringing them back to the original 5-piece they started as. Burrfoot return after a brief hiatus with a new bass player and a bunch of new material (which sounds suspiciously like Will’s already-defunct other band ROFLSTOMP… hmmm). But you’re bound to have seen them before and so will already know that they sound like getting stuck in an elevator with an unhappy jackhammer perpetually stuck at quarter-speed.

Curcuma are a two-piece still new on the scene but crushing skulls with a smile with their minimalistic sludge rock. They’ve taken their cues from classic sludge and post-hardcore like Neurosis and Isis, but somehow still sound more influenced by tropical storms. This is as heavy as music can get on one guitar.

Faces in the Fire are a young bunch who take their cues from some of the best 90′s stoner rock and some of the best 60′s acid rock. Dare to imagine a cross-pollination of Queens of the Stone Age, Yawning Man and Jefferson Airplane. Then forget all that, get drunk and rock out because they sound nothing like that.

And then – good GOD man – there’s this band called Johnny Don’t Do It. They sound like they like to have a few drinks and write songs about their most memorable endgame bosses on the SNES. Actually that’s a pretty damn great topic to write songs about, so if they haven’t already done it, someone should really consider it. I’d pay to see it.
